Thanks for the review! Looks like fun was had. You mentioned some issues with the safe-saw. It has been a fine balance for us to include a tool to manipulate the cardboard material that is both functional and safe. The toy safety standards are reasonably rigorous. I appreciate that tools such as scissors and bread-knives leave a more refined cut, and I use them myself when ‘making’, but we also wanted young kids to have the freedom to get involved. One trick we use, and find quite effective, is to first punch holes along the line you want to cut. This gives control over the placement of the cut line and makes the cutting easier – effectively a dot-to-dot exercise.

The kits are safety graded 3+, and age graded 5+. I agree that it would be a slightly older child who could work entirely independently, but Makedo is as much about learning about material reuse and immersive play to which a child younger than 5 could easily relate.
I look forward to seeing what emerges when you re-use the Makedo parts.
