Little Polly Flinders

Fireplace at Mom's

Here are the words to the nursery rhyme Little Polly Flinders

Little Polly Flinders
Sat among the cinders,
Warming her pretty little toes;
Her mother came and caught her,
And whipped her little daughter
For spoiling her nice new clothes

Can you imagine the outcry of a child warming their pretty little toes on a naked flame now? I can remember I always used to get into trouble for sitting too close to our gas fire when I was little and singeing my clothes. And a good whip solved everything (not for singeing my clothes I hasten to add). What are your memories of this? Do you have any views on this nursery rhyme? Please share in the comments below.
